Background & History
In 1984, LB Cummins decided to purchase a car dealership in Weatherford, OK after the original owner decided to sell it. The dealership was known as Wilson Pontiac Buick GMC before LB Cummins gave it the title Cummins Pontiac Buick GMC. Before purchasing the storefront, LB worked with his business partner, who was also his brother-in-law, Charlie Wheeler at Wheeler-Cummins car dealership in Hinton, OK. While working with Charlie, LB also had partnerships with other dealership owners in Watonga and Kingfisher, both two small towns in western OK. While LB managed Cummins Pontiac Buick GMC, his son, Chad Cummins, farmed. Chad planned on farming for the rest of his life, but in 1985, he decided the dealership held a better future for himself. Chad has worked there ever since.

After LB and Chad worked together for almost 10 years, the two decided to purchase Zoeller Dodge in Weatherford, OK. In 1994, Cummins Dodge consolidated with Cummins Pontiac GMC and renamed the business Cummins Dodge Pontiac Buick GMC. Although the business was successful as it was, LB and Chad saw room for growth. In 2008, Cummins bought the Chevrolet franchise and renamed the dealership Cummins Dodge Pontiac Buick GMC Chevrolet. In 2010, both Chad and LB made the big decision to tear down the original outdated storefront to build a more modern dealership with hopes of competing with larger dealerships. A year later, Chad and LB saw another opportunity for growth. In 2011, Cummins bought York Ford and renamed it Cummins Ford. At this point, Cummins has bought out every other dealership in Weatherford, meaning every dealership in town operates under Chad and LB Cummins. After successfully operating multiple dealerships, Cummins decided to build two new storefronts. In 2013, the new Ford store was built, now known as Cummins Ford Lincoln, and in 2014 the new Dodge store was built. Cummins Dodge, which was previously with Cummins Pontiac Buick GMC Chevrolet, became its own store, which is now named Cummins Chrysler, which carries the brands Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep, and Ram.

Thirty-six years later, Cummins Chevrolet Buick GMC Cadillac, Cummins Chrysler, and Cummins Ford Lincoln continue to operate under owner and manager Chad Cummins. Although LB Cummins never retired, he no longer considers himself a salesman. He continues to go to work each day, simply because he enjoys it, but doesn’t participate in selling cars. Now 80 years old, LB says he will come to work for as long as he can drive. Chad recently decided to expand his business and open another dealership in El Reno, OK. In 2020, Cummins bought Rick Jones Buick GMC and renamed it Dorsey-Jones Buick GMC. Cole Dorsey, Chad’s nephew, operates the business while Chad continues to work in Weatherford. After being in the car business for many years, Chad made the choice not to name the new dealership Cummins Buick GMC. He thought if he were to name it after his last name, he would lose customers in Weatherford. He worried his customers from the OKC area would no longer come to Weatherford. Today, each dealership within Cummins Auto Group is successful. Although Chad doesn’t plan on purchasing any more dealerships right now, he looks forward to growing his sales within Cummins Auto Group until one of his three children are ready to take over.
